It’s been a funny old year

The weather has been strange and not fulfilled early promise; access to my hives has been difficult through building work and soil movement and yet here we are – time to get the girls ready for winter.

The building works and a few accidents have changed the ‘floral supermarket’ and so during winter I am planning to restock mostly with the bees in mind.  Honey yield will possibly squeeze to just 20 lbs – I really want to do better next year.  My second colony still looks a little sparse.  I wonder whether a poly hive is worth a try to give them better chance to keep warm?  http://www.modernbeekeeping.co.uk/item/192/5010—national-hive

About apiarylandlord

Definitely past it - whatever it was - I may have blinked and missed it. New to beekeeping and totally entranced by the experience. That is probably all you need to know until I work out how secure this blog is. Great fan of recycling - see ilovefreegle.org to find your local group. Save things from landfill. Pass on your surplus, locally, for free or ask for things you need in case you can have someone's cast off again for free.
