We have had a few cold days. I have been so proud of the gals; they have been working so hard. my mentor, Paul suggested we had a super of drawn out comb for them to add more stores – they do seem quite a vigorous colony. He kindly brought one of his for me and I put it on to-day at the same time as topping up the syrup.
My mind is turning towards doing everything necessary to help them through the winter. Possibly polystyrene under the roof. Something to deter the green woodpeckers we have around. Possibly a hive strap around so that if the badgers bump into it they may not reach the stores. Mouseguards of course. I think my husband would think me crazy if I were to suggest purchasing a patio heater. Has no-one designed solar panels for beehives – most of them face south -ish?
